Wheelchair Basketball

The Isle of Wight Basketball club is delighted to be able to inform that we have been approved by the British Wheelchair Basketball Association to commence with a wheelchair basketball programme.

This will be led by two experienced wheelchair basketball coaches Ryan Cameron (Level 2) and Gary Butler (Activator).

Our first sessions are being planned for members of St Georges School in Newport with future sessions being planned for Cowes and Freshwater at locations to be confirmed.

Our committee members are Safeguarding trained and will have enhanced DBS as well as being licensed by Basketball England via our club which is also registered and has Public Liability & Indemnity Insurance.

Gary Butler, who was medically discharged from the RAF in 1993 due  to a spinal injury represents the Forces Veterans Charity Help for Heroes GB team as well as playing for them in the BWB Basketball Inspire League. Gary has recently gained support from Wightlink to assist him with his travel to and from the mainland to train and play. We are delighted to have Gary to help us promote wheelchair basketball on the Isle of Wight.

Ryan Cameron, A Level 2 Wheelchair Basketball coach who is also a qualified Referee. The highlight of his basketball career to date was officiating a friendly between Great Britain A and B Teams. Ryan is a retired PE Teacher who completed the London Marathon in 2017. Ryan loves Basketball and is keen to promote wheelchair Basketball on the Island.
