Building on the success and growth of our Junior Program from the Poundland 5v5 League, Head Coach Ian Broadsmith recognised the need for the Juniors to experience more competitive basketball opportunities beyond the local scene. To provide the team with greater challenges and exposure, he decided to take the IOW Caulkhead U16s off the Island to participate in a more demanding environment.
In September 2024, The Caulkheads (U16s) embarked on their first season in the SABA Junior Central Venue League. This move marked a significant step in the team’s development, as they began competing against some of the best U16 teams in the region. The league consists of 10 teams, providing a diverse and competitive field that tests the players’ skills and teamwork.
Once a month, the team travels to Southampton to the Solent University Campus, making the journey across the water to face off against their rivals. These regular trips not only enhance their playing experience but also help build team camaraderie and resilience.
For those interested in following the team’s journey, we encourage you to check our social media for scores, updates and highlights. Additionally, if you or your child are passionate about basketball and would like to be part of this exciting venture, please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information on how to get involved.
